Some things I noticed about mead acid, and gelatin broths.

"Mead acid is found in large quantities in cartilage."

If this is true (wiki doesn't give a citation for it), could it explain some of the beneficial effects of gelatin?

"Mead acid has been found to decrease osteoblastic activity. This may be important in treating conditions where inhibition of bone formation is desired."

This could be why all the EFA deficient, highly metabolic rats in experiments grow to a smaller size.

Perhaps mead acid can be found in intact cartilage (oxtail or the tendon cuts you can get in vietnamese pho soup for instance) but gelatin is devoid of any significant amount of fat.

Most of its benefit are achieved on a fat free diet, when it's used as only unsaturated fat and PUFAs are lacking.
